Filtration is the part of the system people are sold most and told least about
Wellington works on heating, cooling and ventilation across Frisco and north Collin County. We fit filtration, and we are careful about it: a filter your system cannot carry makes the house worse, and there are products in this market we will not install at all.
What air cleaning equipment actually does
Five reasons people want it, crossed with the four things that get proposed. It explains what a filter rating means, why the higher number is not automatically better, and where the real limit sits.
Including what we will not sell you
We do not install devices that work by producing ozone. Ozone is a lung irritant. That is not a marketing position, it is the reason. The page says so, explains where ultraviolet does have a narrow legitimate use, and declines to make any health claim at all.
Six things
Repair
No cooling and no heat, checked in order of cost. Capacitors, contactors, float switches, filters, thermostats and breakers before anything expensive is discussed.
Annual service
Combustion tested on gas heat, defrost proved on heat pumps, charge verified properly, and the readings written down so next year’s visit has something to compare against.
Filtration
Specified against what the system can actually carry, measured before and after. A media cabinet sized correctly is one of the few upgrades that reliably does what it says.
Ductwork
Static pressure and leakage measured rather than inspected. In a county where the duct lives in a 130-degree attic, that is usually where the problem is.
Ventilation
Kitchen, bathroom and whole-house ventilation that terminates outside the building rather than into a roof space, and make-up air where extract needs it.
Premises
Rooftop packaged units, filtration on commercial air handling, extract with make-up air, and planned maintenance twice a year for offices, clinics, retail and light industrial.
Houses
Frisco houses are large, tightly built and mostly two-storey, which makes them quiet, efficient and unforgiving. Air that leaks in through a gap somewhere is filtered by nothing, and a filter that the blower cannot pull through is worse than the cheap one it replaced. We measure both.
Premises
Offices, clinics, dental and medical suites, retail and light industrial. Filtration matters more in a building where people are asked to sit for eight hours, and it is also where the most extravagant claims get made to facilities managers. We will tell you what a filter change actually buys you.
Six things this website does not print
| Health claims | None, anywhere. We are not medical people and filtration is not a treatment. Nothing on this site says a product will prevent, reduce or protect anyone from any illness, allergy or condition. |
| Prices | A filter cabinet retrofit depends entirely on what is there and how much room is around it. A figure here would be a guess. |
| A response time | We do not publish one, because in the first week of a Texas August nobody can hold to it. We will tell you where you are in the queue when you ring. |
| Percentages | No capture rates, no savings figures, no “removes 99% of” anything. Those numbers come from a laboratory test on one product in one condition and they do not describe your house. |
| Reviews and ratings | There are none on this site. When there are real ones they will be somewhere you can check them. |
Asked most often
Should I fit the highest-rated filter I can buy?
No, and in a one-inch slot it is the commonest way to make a system worse. Every filter is a restriction, and a residential blower has a fixed amount of pull. A denser filter in a small area drops the airflow, which reduces capacity, makes the house less comfortable and puts strain on the blower and compressor. The way past that is area rather than density — a four- or five-inch media cabinet has many times the surface, so it can be finer at the same resistance.
Do you fit ionisers or active air purifiers?
No. Some devices in that category work by producing ozone, and ozone is a lung irritant — that is the reason, not a sales position. The wider issue is that active devices are hard to verify in a real building, where a passive filter can simply be tested. If you want one we will not argue with you, but it will not be us fitting it, and we would ask you to establish in writing whether the model produces ozone.
Are UV lamps worth having?
There is a narrow use that is defensible: a lamp aimed at the evaporator coil and drain pan, which are wet and dark whenever the system cools and are a genuine place for growth. Growth on a coil fouls the fins and costs you airflow, so a coil lamp is really a maintenance device. What we will not tell you is that a lamp in your ductwork sterilises the air in your house, or make any claim about illness.
Will a better filter help with allergies?
We will not answer that, and we would be careful of any contractor who does. Filtration is mechanical and we are not clinicians. What we can honestly tell you is what a filter is rated to capture, what it costs you in airflow, whether the cabinet is sealed so the air actually goes through it, and how many hours a day your fan is running — because a filter only works while air is moving through it.
My bathroom fan seems to work. Why would you check it?
Because in this part of Texas the commonest fault we find is an extract duct that terminates in the attic rather than outside the building. The fan runs, the room clears, and every shower is putting moisture into the roof space. It is cheap to put right and it is worth knowing about before it becomes a roof problem.
